Berliner Weisse

German-style Sour

Boulevard Berliner Weisse, our newest seasonal beer, will debut on draft on July 31st and in six-packs on August 1st in the Greater Kansas City Area with other regions to follow! Our take on a fairly traditional German-style, low ABV, tart wheat beer, we first brewed this beer in celebration of Boulevardia 2016. Given the overwhelmingly positive reaction the beer received coupled with how amazingly enjoyable it was during a hot weekend, we’re excited to share Boulevard Berliner Weisse with a much wider audience!

With a malt bill composed of our two-row base pale malt, malted wheat and CaraPils, Boulevard Berliner Weisse features subtle bittering with Topaz hops and additions of orange, lemon and lime peel at the end of the boil to punctuate a soft lactic acidity with bright, citrus notes. Following primary fermentation with our house ale strain (employed in perennial favorites Pale Ale and Unfiltered Wheat Beer), our Berliner Weisse was inoculated with a lactobacillus culture that had previously been used to acidify Liefmans sour base beers and given several weeks for secondary fermentation to unfold.

With refreshing lactic acidity providing a slight zip and fluffy carbonation creating a thin layer of white foam on a light bodied, straw yellow ale, Boulevard Berliner Weisse opens with citrus aromas hinting to the soft sourness and lemon, lime and orange peel in a crisp, tart beer that’s incredibly flavorful and fruity while being super refreshing and ideal for a balmy summer day.

Boulevard Berliner Weisse is 4.5% ABV, 8 IBUs and is a perfect accompaniment to creamy cheeses, Eggs Benedict, citrusy salads and pretzels with tangy mustard.
